Phu Quoc

In the Gulf of Thailand, 45km west of Ha Tien, situated Phu Quoc, the largest island of Vietnam, one of the country’s emerging-star attractions. Fifty-five minutes away by air from Ho Chi Minh City will take you to this splendid tropical getaway set with beautiful white-sand beaches, tropical forests, spreading plantations and quaint fishing villages.

Phu Quoc, the officially the island district of Kien Giang province, includes of the main island whose area is approximately 580 km2 and 21 smaller islets. Though considered a part of the Mekong delta, the island has never been famous for the ability to produce rice and fruit due to its soil quality and inaccessible terrain. However, Phu Quoc is home to the best fish sauce in the world, thanks to the rich fishing grounds offshore. The island is also reputedly known to produce high quality pepper with plantations spreading wide in the center of the island, pearl farms providing high quality pearls and fantastic seafood. When talking about this island’s specialties, it should be a shame not to mention Phu Quoc’s hunting dogs, which have ridgebacks, curly tails and blue tongues and are believed to have good ability of picking up scents, swimming and catching fishes.

Above all, Phu Quoc is arranged as a perfect hideaway for travelers. Mountains run the length of the island with the peak being the Chua Mount at 603 meters. 

Much of this island is still covered by forest, under the protection of Phu Quoc National Park, which covers an area of 31,422 hectares, close to 70% of the island. Phu Quoc beaches reserve the ever beauty with turquoise water and silver sand. On the west coast, in Duong Dong, the capital town of the district, accommodation and services are provided at different service ranges and budget.


Phu Quoc's monsoonal sub-equatorial climate is characterized by distinct rainy (June to November) and dry seasons (December to May). Best time to visit Phu Quoc islands is from November to March, when the sun dominates and the temperature hovers perfectly at 25-28 C degree.
